Funerals and Columbarium
The Cathedral honors the dead with burial services from The Book of Common Prayer. The burial service centers on the deep gratitude to God for the gift of a life and for the promise of eternal life in the resurrection. We pray for the dead because we still hold them in our love, even after their death.
Funerals are held in either the private Bofinger Chapel adjacent to the Cathedral, which can set 50, or the nave, which can seat up to 450. Fees are based on the use of Cathedral resources, including space, clergy and music. Officiating clergy and the deceased’s family members jointly plan the service, which may include the Eucharist.
Niches in our columbarium (a sacred space for storing the remains) are available in the Bofinger Chapel. To be eligible for or interment there, persons must be either members or past members of the Cathedral or the Diocese of Missouri or their spouses, children or other family members. Determinations of eligibility are made by the dean and the Cathedral’s senior warden Please call the Cathedral office at 314-231-3454 for more information.
